Aeromil Pacific has announced the acquisition of a 1936 Cessna C34 Airmaster which has a long historical connection with Australia.
“This beautiful airplane was the first Cessna to fly in Australia and is now one of only two left in the world,” said managing director Steve Padgett. “I am very proud to announce the purchase of the Airmaster, to preserve Australia’s and Cessna’s aviation history. As Aeromil Pacific is the Cessna dealer, the Airmaster certainly has an appropriate new home to continue the Cessna story in Australia”.
The C34, MSN339 and registered as VH-UYG, was built in December 1936 and made its first flight on January 1 1937 before it was shipped to Australia and joined the local register in July 1937. It subsequently went on to be operated by the RAAF during World War 2 and later the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) in WA. The aircraft received a complete restoration in 1993.
Aeromil will base the aircraft at its facilities in the Sunshine Coast, with the company looking at building a glass showroom to display it and ensure its long term protection. It also expects to fly the Airmaster to special aviation events, given its significance to Australian aviation.
