Scone airport to be upgraded

written by WOFA | May 25, 2010

The New South Wales government is helping to fund a $2 million upgrade to Scone Airport which is expected to boost local businesses in the Upper Hunter region.

The upgrades will include an extension of the runway, construction of an additional taxiway and improved drainage around the airfield. The upgrades will support 54 direct jobs over the next year.

“The airport was built in 1958 and is now in serious need of upgrading to service current and future levels of economic activity in the region as well as meet the needs of ongoing population growth,” said NSW Minister for Regional Development Ian Macdonald.

The airport is adjacent to the Scone Airpark, which is a commercial development aimed at aviation businesses which would have direct access to the runway on the airfield.
