Cathay Pacific Cargo has announced that it will launch a twice weekly round-the-world freighter service from July 9.

The airline will operate a Boeing 747-400 Freighter which will depart from Hong Kong and fly via Anchorage to Chicago, before crossing the Atlantic to Amsterdam, then onwards to Dubai and back to Hong Kong. In total, the round-the-world flight will take 44.5 hours to operate, including ground time to uplift freight.

Cathay says that the new route, which is the first time the airline has operated a trans-Atlantic service, is part of a strategy to strengthen its services from Hong Kong as the global market for air freight experiences a strong upswing. The carrier has also announced that it plans to launch services to Houston and Miami during July.
