Tiger Airways Australia has opened sales on its first flights from Avalon to the Gold Coast from later this year, and also announced that it plans to up the number of aircraft it operates from Victoria to 10 by the end of the year.

“We’re proud to call Victoria home and the five additional aircraft for the region will provide 2.5 million more low fare seats to/from Victoria,” said Tiger Airways Australia’s managing director Crawford Rix.

“We’re also thrilled to announce today that our first flights will depart from Avalon Airport on 10 November 2010 with the inaugural flight en route to the Gold Coast – our first confirmed destination from Avalon.”

The airline has put tickets for the Avalon-Gold Coast route on sale from $45 one way. Tiger will base two A320s at Avalon, while an additional two aircraft will be delivered later this year to be based at either Avalon or Tullamarine. Tiger also has two A320s which operate from its Adelaide base.
