The USAF has placed an order for eight C-27J tactical transports from Finmeccanica, bringing to 21 the total number of C-27Js ordered for the service.

Under the previous Joint Cargo Aircraft (JCA) requirement for the USAF and US Army, as many as 108 C-27Js were to be acquired, but this has been reduced to a just 39 aircraft with the Army’s withdrawal from the JCA program.

Funding for a further eight C-27Js has been included in the FY2011 budget currently going through the various approval processes in the US.
