Brisbane Airport hit a new record for passenger traffic during the 2009/10 financial year as both domestic and international services grew strongly, particularly during June.
The airport recorded 19.4 million passengers for the year, of which 14.9 million were domestic and 4.1 million international passengers, in addition to 400,000 transit passengers. During June, there were approximately 346,000 international passengers and 1.2 million domestic passengers, resulting in massive 7.3 per cent and 7.6 per cent increases respectively on last year’s June results.
“Despite the economic turmoil of the past financial year, which had a major impact on our industry, we have managed to hold our own and still improve on the figures from the previous financial year,” said CEO Julieanne Alroe. “These results are indicative of our region’s strength as a tourism and business destination, and no doubt the favourable exchange rates and airfares prompted record numbers of Australians to travel overseas.”
