Luxembourg based cargo carrier Cargolux Airlines will suspend its services to Australia and New Zealand, citing high operating costs.

“We have been trying hard over the past 10 years – through good and bad times – to maintain this service even though the flight economics simply do not justify the operation,” a Cargolux spokesman told AirCargo Asia-Pacific.  “However, Cargolux is now facing insufficient network capacity and as a result, we have no choice but to suspend this costly operation.”

Cargolux will operate its last service to Melbourne and Auckland on 28/29 August 2010. The airline says that it may reinstate services in the future.
