Qantas has extended its joint venture ownership of Australian air Express and Star Track Express with Australia Post, while also concluding a new mail carriage agreement.

Both Qantas and Australia Post own 50 per cent shares in AaE and Star Track, with Qantas CEO Alan Joyce noting that they were strategic investments for the Qantas Group.

“An extensive review was conducted of both businesses, which demonstrated there were significant customer, operational and market benefits for Qantas and Australia Post to remain in partnership,” he said.

Qantas says that it has recently started a process of developing a new strategy for the two freight companies to maximise their value, with details of the future directions of the companies to be released in the near future.

As well as extending its cooperation on the two express parcel operators, Qantas entered into a new agreement with Australia Post over the carriage of mail on its domestic and international services, as well as a contract for domestic belly space with AaE. Qantas first carried mail for Australia Post in 1922.
