Newcastle Airport has reported strong growth in passenger numbers during both June and July, boosted by school holiday traffic and an increase in Jetstar services.
During June, passenger numbers at the airport reached 88,934, up 5.74 per cent on the same month last year, while traffic in July was up 5.73 per cent at 101,802. The July result was the first month since October 2009 that the airport has handled over 100,000 passengers in a month.
Newcastle Airport’s manager corporate affairs, David Nye, said that the increase showed that confidence had returned to the market after the global financial crisis, which he hoped would continue. “After a slow start to the year, we hope to see this trend continue which will enable us to reach our forecast of 1.17 million passengers for 2010,” he said.
