Aussie Glasair ready to race at Reno

written by WOFA | September 15, 2010

A highly modified Glasair III will be carrying Australian hopes when it takes part in the Reno Air Race Championships this month.

The aircraft, known as the Baker Racer, is owned by Ian Baker of Advanced Aero Components of Bankstown. For its racing role, the Glasair III has been given a twin-turbo, six cylinder Lycoming 540 engine, as well as other aerodynamic enhancements which are hoped to see it run at speeds in excess of 330kt and pull over 6Gs at the Air Race. The racer is also expected to attempt to break several world speed and distance records early next year.

The Reno Air Races are being flown between September 15-19 and involves six classes of aircraft as well as an airshow and a large static display.
