The entire fleet of Eurofighters in service with the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria and Saudi Arabia have been grounded to accommodate a fix to the fighter’s ejection seat.
The grounding follows an accident in Spain in August which resulted in the death of a Saudi pilot whose parachute reportedly separated from his seat after he ejected during a training flight.
The UK’s Falklands-based Eurofighter Typhoons and its Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) aircraft based at RAF Coningsby near Lincoln have been cleared for emergency operational flights if required, and have been given priority for the fix to the seat.
