First Mk-84 Laser JDAM tested

written by WOFA | September 29, 2010

Boeing has successfully conducted two tests of a precision guided Laser JDAM version of the M-84 2000lb bomb.

Already cleared for the 500lb Mk-82 and 1000lb Mk-83, the same Laser JDAM kit will allow the massive Mk-84 to hit moving targets as well as the fixed and relocatable target capability offered by the standard non-laser JDAM kit.

The tests were the first two of a planned seven tests conducted at Eglin AFB in Florida. The weapons were released from an F-16 at 30,000 feet and Mach 0.95 and flew a series of manoeuvres which validated their aerodynamic performance.
