Qantas CEO Alan Joyce has said that the airline is not interested in a possible merger with British Airways, with the company now focused on pursuing organic growth opportunities in Asia instead.

“Been there, done that,” Joyce remarked when recently asked by a reporter about comments from BA CEO Willie Walsh that the airline was interested in reopening merger talks with Qantas if it were open to it. In 2008 Qantas and BA held merger talks which ultimately foundered on disagreements over the valuations of the two airlines.

Joyce added that Qantas was “more focused on the Asia market and organic growth there”, where it is expected that it will focus on growing Jetstar’s operations from Singapore and Vietnam, as well as other potential bases over the next few years.
