LockMart tests new Hellfire

written by WOFA | September 2, 2010

Lockheed Martin has successfully tested the latest version of its Hellfire air-to-surface missile range, the AGM-1114R ‘Romeo’.

The new model features a multi-purpose warhead which covers the entire target set of the Hellfire range, rather than the previous need for dedicated blast fragmentation or anti-armour (HEAT) versions, and a UAS operator or helicopter pilot can now select the lethality effects required for a specific target while in the air. The Romeo also has better performance from high altitude launches allowing it to engage targets directly below or even behind a launch aircraft.

The AGM-114R uses the same airframe and motor as previous models and has the same unit cost.
