The New Zealand government has come to an agreement with prime contractor L-3 Comm Spar and subcontractor Safe Air to complete the RNZAF’s C-130 upgrade program.

The work comprises the replacement of the aircraft’s centre wing sections and a comprehensive avionics and self defence system upgrade. Work on the upgrade of the five aircraft had stalled following the standing down of Safe Air staff due to delays by L-3 in completing software integration work for the aircraft.

The new agreement will see the first two aircraft re-delivered by the end of this year for test and evaluation work while the remaining three will be completed by the end of 2013.
