Strategic Airlines has announced that it will fly twice weekly services on a Brisbane-Townsville-Denpasar routing from December 3, taking to three times per week the number of services it flies between Brisbane and Bali.

The two new services will operate every Friday and Sunday with an Airbus A230 configured with 12 business class and 144 economy seats. This is in addition it its existing Brisbane-Port Hedland-Denpasar service which operates on a Tuesday.

Strategic is currently involved in a three-way competition for additional rights on the Indonesia route, with Qantas and Pacific Blue also contesting for a slice of 4000 additional seats which were made available earlier this year. By operating its flights from Brisbane to Denpasar through Port Hedland and Townsville, the services do not require an allocation of capacity under the Australia-Indonesia bilateral agreement as Strategic already has an allocation of unlimited capacity to Indonesia on ports other than the main gateway cities.
