Fees cut at Hervey Bay and Maryborough for GA aircraft

written by WOFA | November 11, 2010

The Fraser Coast Regional Council has announced that it will not levy landing fees at the Hervey Bay and Maryborough airports for private aircraft with a maximum takeoff weight below 2000kg.

The announcement comes after the council and the Fraser Coast Aviation Group began working together to develop a plan to improve aviation tourism in the region. This is likely to see an increase in community aviation activities as well as more encouragement for the growth of general aviation businesses at the two airports.

“We suggested that council could get a better economic return to the region through promoting free recreational use and attracting aircraft than it would through charging recreational flyers landing fees,” said Fraser Coast Aviation Group chairman Mike Macbeth.

Commercial users will still be levied the appropriate fees based on the weight of their aircraft.
