The Victorian Liberal Nationals coalition would build a rail line to link Avalon Airport to Melbourne and Geelong should it win November 27’s state election.
Opposition leader Ted Baillieu said the coalition would spend $50 million in its first term on design and planning, land acquisition and preliminary construction works, out of a total estimated project cost of $250 million.
“This rail link will allow passengers to travel from Melbourne, Geelong or even Warrnambool by train direct to Avalon Airport and will support the Coalition’s plan for Avalon as Victoria’s second international airport,” Baillieu said.
The completed rail link would see a single track rail line connect a new Avalon Airport train station to the Melbourne to Geelon rail line between the Little River and Lara stations.
