The Lockheed Martin JASSM-ER has completed two more successful test flights, making it 10 successes from 11 launches for the 1000km range development of the AGM-158 JASSM.

The two test missiles were released from B-1B bombers and flew to targets at the White Sands missile range in New Mexico. The tests focused on the weapon’s alternate terminal engagement profile and Time-on-Target (TOT) mode where it demonstrated its ability to slow down or speed up in flight to allow for winds and atmospheric conditions, and to meet exact timings to engage time-critical targets.

“In my 25 years of Air Force acquisition, I have never seen a more successful air launched cruise missile developmental test program,” Col Steve Demers, the USAF’s JASSM program manager, said. “I’m confident JASSM-ER is ready for production.”

A decision on whether to proceed with low rate production will be made on December 2, while an initial operational test and evaluation (IOT&E) program of 16 flights is due to be conducted next year.
