Boeing says it will launch a spare parts inventory management system using technologies such as RFID (radio frequency identification devices) and contact memory buttons (CMBs) in the first quarter of 2012, after signing a strategic alliance with Fujitsu.
Under the deal Fujitsu will provide Boeing with automated identification technology devices, device readers, software applications and a system integration and deployment service for the Boeing Transformation Service. Boeing will use those technologies to offer airlines and maintenance providers tailored solutions which will allow them to cut costs by reducing parts inventory and manual data entry errors without having to create new processes.
Boeing says the service will undergo three phases of beta testing and then deployment with a launch customer prior to launch in early 2012.
