Tasair Navajo makes wheels-up landing

written by WOFA | December 8, 2010

A Tasair Piper Navajo carrying Tasmanian Primary Industries Minister Byran Green has made a wheels up landing on King Island.

“It took a long time to stop,” Minister Green told the Tasmanian Mercury. “There was a big bang and the two propellers stopped very suddenly. There was a bit of slewing around and then it was all about making sure there wasn’t a fire. We all jumped out fairly quickly.”

The paper reports that the pilot has admitted to not extending the landing gear, while the weather conditions were reported as being “terrible”.

The seven passengers, which also included ministerial staffers, journalists and a photographer, plus the pilot were uninjured in the incident.
