A400M cold weather trials in Sweden.

Airbus Military’s second A400M development aircraft flew in to the northern Swedish city of Kiruna at the beginning of February, to conduct four days of cold weather testing.

Airbus reports that tthe A400M (dubbed‘Grizzly 2’) experienced temperatures down to -21ºC and successfully achieved all planned test points during a program that focused on the aircraft’s four 11,000shp EuroProp International TP400-D6 powerplants.

An Airbus A340-300 accompanied Grizzly 2 for the tests, carrying support equipment and personnel.

The February trials followed preliminary cold weather work done in Hamburg during December last year and will be followed by further testing in more extreme temperatures at Kiruna and other locations over this northern winter and next.
