written by WOFA | March 24, 2011

A RAAF C-130J Hercules is currently in Norway to take part in an international exercise focused on the J model C-130.

Fifteen RAAF members from Richmond based 37SQN are currently participating in Exercise Combined Strength 2011, being held at Norway’s Bodø Air Force Base from March 19 to 25. Open to countries who operate the C-130J, Denmark as well as host nation Norway are taking part in this year’s exercise. The exercise gives participants a forum to share best practice for operating the C-130J, including aircrew and maintainer training.

“The Australian contingent will be there to deliver presentations on our training structure, which includes how we develop and prepare our aircrew and maintenance professionals,” said Commander Air Lift Group, AIRCDRE Gary Martin.

“They’ll also participate in flying exercises that include search and rescue practice, day and night-time operations, airdrop missions and cold weather survival.”

Just north of the Arctic Circle, Bodø is Norway’s largest air force base and is home to two Royal Norwegian Air Force F-16 squadrons.
