Auckland takes out best Australia Pacific Airport in Skytrax awards

written by WOFA | April 1, 2011

Auckland Airport has won top honours at the 2011 Skytrax World Airport awards, after being named as best airport in the Australia Pacific region for a third year in a row.

The New Zealand gateway was also the only airport from Australasia to make Skytrax’s top 10 list of global airports, coming in at eighth.

Auckland Airport CEO, Simon Moutter thanked passengers who voted for the airport, with Skytrax gathering over 11.38 million responses from air travellers in more than 115 countries, between July 2010 and March 2011. “In recent years, we have been totally focused on making each passenger journey better. That focus is now being reflected in the Skytrax awards, with our rating improving over the last three years from tenth, to ninth, and now to eighth best rated airport in the world. It is proof yet again that New Zealand can compete on the global stage in many different fields, including tourism,” Moutter said.

The Skytrax World Airport Awards ceremony was held on March 31 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
