Strategic Airlines has applied for traffic rights to the USA, prompting speculation the largely leisure orientated carrier is planning flights to Hawaii.
Strategic wrote to the International Air Services Commission (IASC) earlier this month, seeking “an allocation of the unlimited capacity available to designated Australian carriers to operate between Australia and the United States.” The airline says its US capacity would be “fully utilised by 31 August 2012”.
Strategic currently operates one Airbus A330-200 with plans to acquire more. Flights to Honolulu fit the A330-200’s payload range capabilities, and Strategic already flies to the leisure destinations of Phuket and Denpasar/Bali.
The airline is also planning to change its name, with The Sydney Morning Herald recently suggesting that ‘Air Australia’ was the likely new name.
