The memory module of the flight data recorder of the doomed Air France Flight 447 (AF447) has been found by search teams in the Atlantic Ocean, giving hope investigators will be able to determine what caused the 2009 crash of the Airbus A330-200.
According to reports the memory module was recovered by the Ile de Sein search vessel on Sunday May 1 in otherwise good condition, suffering only superficial damage to its exterior. The latest discovery comes almost a week after the aircraft’s flight data recorder chassis was located by a remote underwater vehicle on April 26, but with the memory module missing. The BEA will now examine data recorded from the module in Paris over the coming weeks.
Recovery teams first found sections of the A330, including human remains, in early April.
All 228 passengers and crew were killed onboard AF447 when it plunged into the Atlantic ocean on a flight from Rio de Janeiro to Paris on June 1 2009.
