Ferra awarded Boeing commercial contract

written by WOFA | May 3, 2011

Ferra will supply components for Boeing's commercial airliner family.

Brisbane based support firm Ferra Engineering has secured a five year build-to-order contract from Boeing to manufacture components for the company’s line of 737, 747, 757, 767 and 777 series aircraft.

Under the agreement, Ferra will manufacture a total of 618 unique machined components used by Boeing aircraft, after the engineering company was originally identified as a potential supplier by Boeing’s Office of Australian Industry Capability (OAIC).

“Over the past three years, Ferra has worked closely with the OAIC for training and development that has helped us to be more competitive,” Ferra Engineering managing director Mark Scherrer said.

“The OAIC also facilitated bid opportunities that ultimately led to contracts with several US based Boeing sites. With our performance to those contracts, our business is expanding rapidly,” Scherrer noted. “As part of this long term agreement, Ferra is now planning to open a new office in the United States to provide additional services and further expand our export business.”

Established with support from the Defence Materiel Organization’s Industry Division, Boeing says the OAIC has helped Australian firms win contracts worth more than US$200 million in support of  commercial and military aircraft programs.
