The Department of Defence says a component failure in the fuel system caused the engine failure which led to the May 18 crash of a RAAF PC-9/A.
“Air Force will now work with its contracted maintenance organisations, and engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney, to establish the cause of the component failure,” Defence said in a June 6 statement.
“This will inform any further engineering and maintenance work that may be required to the component. Once this is completed, and no other factors are found by the AAIT, the PC-9/A will be cleared to return to flying operations.”
The ADF’s Aviation Accident Investigation Team (AAIT) is continuing to investigate the accident, which saw the two pilots onboard eject safely.
