Eleven RAAF veterans have been awarded the United States Air Medal in recognition of their efforts in supporting the US Fifth Air Force during the Korean War.

The veterans, all former pilots with 77SQN, were presented the medals by United States Ambassador, Jeffrey Bleich, during a ceremony in Canberra yesterday.

Authorised by President Roosevelt in 1942, the US Air Medal is awarded to any person who, while serving in any capacity in or with the armed forces of the United States, has distinguished himself by meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight.
