Brisbane Airport has announced a 5.4 per cent increase in passenger numbers for the 2010-11 financial year, with a record 20 million international and domestic passengers passing through its terminals.
“We’ve had more than our fair share of disasters this year, however the strong Aussie dollar has encouraged more people to travel abroad while domestically strong passenger growth was also made possible by the injection of 1.4 million extra seats, with every domestic airline operating at Brisbane ramping up capacity throughout the year,” Julieanne Alroe, Brisbane Airport Corporation CEO and managing director, said.
Domestic passengers were up six per cent for the year, while international passengers increased 3.6 per cent.
As has been the case at other major airports, Chinese visitor numbers were a significant driver of international growth for Brisbane, with the addition of new direct services contributing to a 23 per cent increase on the previous year’s figures.
