Delta Airlines has placed an order for 100 Boeing 737-900ERs.
The order, which is valued at US$8.5 billion at list prices, will see the aircraft gradually replace Delta’s ageing Boeing 757s, 767s and Airbus A320s on domestic routes from 2013 through to 2018. All 100 737-900ERs will be fitted with Boeing’s new Sky Interior.
Meanwhile, Delta is reportedly still considering a second buy of 100 aircraft to replace its smaller DC-9 and MD-88 fleets, with Bombardier’s CSeries understood to be in the running. However, financial pressures and a desire to reduce debt have seen the airline delay any further orders for the time being.
