Perth based Heliwest has secured a five year long term contract with utility firm Western Power to provide emergency response services, marking the first time a multi-engine helicopter has been contracted for power line work in Western Australia.

Initially contracted to provide only scheduled power line inspection flight services to Western Power, the new role will see Heliwest use one of its five BO105 twin-engine helicopters to transport personnel conducting emergency repair operations across Western Power’s southwest interconnected grid.

Heliwest chief pilot Captain Ashley Williams said the BO105 was “perfectly suited in terms of performance reliability and safety” for Western Power’s emergency response role.
