WAC announces terminal competition winner

written by WOFA | August 26, 2011

Perth Airport owner and operator Westralia Airports Corporation (WAC) has announced Broad Construction Services (BSC) as the winning contractor to build its new $120 million domestic terminal by December 2012.

Originally one of five companies invited to tender for the lucrative contract in April, BSC will begin construction on the 14 gate terminal this month, which is expected to cater for up to 36 aircraft for mining charter and low cost airline customers.

“Over the next three years, we are investing $700 million to expand Perth Airport and [this] represents the first stage towards achieving our vision to have all commercial air services operating from one location,” Perth Airport CEO Brad Geatches said.

“In addition to the new domestic terminal, there will be a major expansion of the International Terminal with a new arrivals area and domestic pier, improved transport links, expanded car parking and increased capacity for more aircraft,” he added, as construction begins on that terminal later this year.

Skywest, Alliance Airlines, Strategic and Tiger Airways will relocate to the new terminal once it is opened in early 2013.
