China looms as the next frontier for Jetstar’s expansion plans following last month’s launch of Jetstar Japan, Jetstar Group CEO Bruce Buchanan told a business lunch in Sydney on Thursday.
“Jetstar is always evaluating further possible new ventures and growth opportunities in Asia,” Buchanan told the Australian-American Association. “We have considerable resources dedicated to a roll out plan of new ventures and growth opportunities,” he said in relation to opportunities in China.
“I think there are opportunities to work in that marketplace, but exactly how I don’t think is going to be decided for some time.”
Already Jetstar’s Singaporean based Jetstar Asia operation has a significant presence in mainland China, with plans to operate from Singapore to up to 12 destinations by the end of 2011.
Buchanan noted that “to do business in China you must first commit significant time and resources to build relationships. Every market we work in Asia has a different culture and approach must be tailored to succeed.”
