The Radar Modernisation Program (RMP) to upgrade the USAF’s fleet of about 220 F-15E Strike Eagles with the AN/APG-82(V)1 AESA radar has been given approval to enter low rate initial production (LRIP).
Designed by Raytheon, the APG-82(V)1 shares many common components and design with the APG-79 AESA as used in the F/A-18E/F Block II Super Hornet, and the APG-63(V)3 installed in the Singaporean F-15SG and a small number of USAF F-15Cs.
The first six production units are expected to be delivered from October, and will be followed by 27 units in two follow-on LRIP lots.
The RMP is currently undergoing a 14 month, 110 flight test program at Eglin AFB in Florida and Holloman AFB in New Mexico to verify the system meets the project specifications.
