written by WOFA | September 30, 2011
Rex is adding Newcastle to its network.

Regional Express (Rex) has announced it will commence services between Newcastle and Sydney, and Newcastle and Ballina/Byron Bay, from October 30.

The airline will operate three daily return services between Sydney and Newcastle on weekdays and two return services on weekends, for a total of 38 flights per week on the sector. In addition, a daily return service will operate between Newcastle and Ballina/Byron Bay.

“As Newcastle Airport continues to grow, the real winners will be the travelling public,” Newcastle Airport CEO Paul Hughes said in a statement. “I anticipate that the introduction of a new airline will stimulate competition and provide a real alternative to driving. The Hunter will benefit from Rex’s Sydney hub, as it offers connections to the airline’s extensive regional network. ”

Rex says it will offer introductory $99 one way fares on its website until February 2012.
