Luxembourg based freight airline Cargolux became the first customer to take delivery of the 747-8F, with the airline’s first example handed over at Boeing’s Everett facilities on October 12, three weeks later than originally expected.
“This is a great day for the Boeing Company and for Cargolux,” said Jim Albaugh, president and CEO, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. “The 747-8 Freighter is truly the Queen of the Skies for the 21st Century, and will continue the promise of the 747 for decades to come.”
After its handover the aircraft, registered LC-VCB, departed Everett for the short hop to Seattle-Tacoma Airport where it took on a load of revenue cargo, before departing for Luxembourg.
Cargolux had earlier announced that it would “reject” delivery of the first two 747-8Fs planned for September 19 and 21, due to “unresolved contractual issues with Boeing”.
