Boeing and Japan’s All Nippon Airways (ANA) are investigating a problem with the landing gear of the 787-8 Dreamliner two weeks after the new airliner went into service.
ANA pilots were forced to deploy JA801A’s landing gear using a manual backup system during a flight on Sunday after sensors indicated the main landing gear had not properly extended, the airline said. The flight subsequently landed safely in Okayama on a second attempt.
Both ANA and Boeing are investigating the problem, which Kyodo News Agency linked to a hydraulic valve.
ANA has so far received two of the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 powered aircraft. The airline says it is using the 787s on domestic routes on an interim basis before putting the jets into international service.
