ILS upgrade for Alice

written by WOFA | June 20, 2012

Airservices Australia has started the first phase of an upgrade to the Instrument Landing System at Alice Springs Airport.

The existing 18 year old ILS on runway 12 at the airport will be progressively upgraded over the next four months, with the new ILS to be brought into service by late September.

“ILS is a highly accurate means for pilots to navigate to the runway when visibility is reduced. We have therefore planned this work to occur when weather conditions are generally most favourable,” said Airservices manager facilities management services, Dan Galazowski.

“The timing also means that the upgrade will be completed before the onset of the wet season and when demand from airlines for use of the ILS traditionally peaks.”
