The Boeing P-8A Poseidon – slated to replace the RAAF’s stalwart AP-3C Orion aircraft under project AIR 7000 – has made its first visit to Australia.
Two US Navy P-8s from the Air Test and Evaluation 1 (VX-1) Squadron based at Naval Air Station Patuxent River have been in Australia since June 1, participating in TAMEX an Australian-US joint anti-submarine exercise of the West Australia coast.
Following the exercise, the aircraft have conducted a flying tour of the RAAF Base Edinburgh, home to the AP-3C Orion fleet, and yesterday visited Fairbairn in Canberra.
