Pilatus Aircraft has won a Qatar Emiri Air Force (QEAF) contract for the delivery of a pilot training system based around the PC-21 turboprop trainer.

The Pilatus training aircraft will be used to train basic and advanced student pilots in the recently established QEAF Air Force Academy in Qatar. The first PC-21 will be supplied to the academy in mid-2014, with training beginning the year after.

The specifications for the PC-21 training system include logistic support and maintenance packages, 24 PC-21 trainer aircraft and ground based training systems. Pilatus will provide long-term support for the system under a performance based agreement.

The PC-21 was selected by QEAF after a detailed evaluation both in Qatar and Switzerland, where Pilatus is based.
