Virgin Australia says its mobile boarding passes will work with the new iPhone’s Passbook app.
The app, billed as a ‘digital wallet’ for storing such things as boarding passes, movie and event tickets and membership cards, will come integrated with the new iPhone 5, scheduled to go on sale Friday. The app will also be available to older iPhones and iPads when Apple releases its iOS 6 software along with the new iPhone.
“We are proud to confirm that Virgin Australia will be the first Australian airline to provide guests with Passbook-compatible boarding passes” the airline said on its blog. “Passbook means you no longer have to frantically search through your wallet or carry-on for your boarding pass.”
Virgin said it will also begin colour-coding its mobile boarding passes according to Velocity frequent flier status.
