UK airport operator BAA will lose its identity in favour of singularly branding its remaining four airports. Heathrow Limited will stand alongside the separate entities of Glasgow, Aberdeen and Southampton Limited effective immediately.
Heathrow CEO Colin Matthews said in a statement October 15 the change reflects the progressive sale of airports and a new corporate approach. “Over the last few years we have sold our stakes in Gatwick, Edinburgh, Budapest and Naples airports and we are in the process of selling Stansted Airport. The BAA name no longer fits. We do not represent all British airports.”
The BAA was formed in 1965 and in successive years took authority over the UK’s principal airports. It was privatised in 2006 when the consortium led by Ferrovial acquired BAA and de-listed it from the Stock Exchange.
