AFR’s Cleary, AA staff take out National Aviation Press Club gongs

Australian Aviation took out four of the six categories at the National Aviation Press Club’s Aviation Journalist of the Year awards on Friday night, with the  main prize of Aviation Journalist of the Year awarded to the Australian Financial Review’s Andrew Cleary.

Winners of this year’s awards were:

Aviation Journalist of the Year – Andrew Cleary, Australian Financial Review, (runner up Tom Ballantyne, Orient Aviation);

Aviation Photographer of the Year – Seth Jaworski, Australian Aviation and airliners.net;

Aviation News Story of the Year – Andrew Cleary, Australian Financial Review for “Qantas forges Emirates ties”;

Aviation Feature of the Year– Michael Gisick, Australian Aviation for “A second Sydney Airport? One more time with feeling”;

Aviation Technical Story of the Year – Gerard Frawley, Australian Aviation, for “Home again.  The repair and return of Qantas A380 VH-OQA Nancy-Bird Walton”;

Aviation Defence Story of the Year – Andrew McLaughlin, Australian Aviation for “Maturing teens: bridging the fighter generation gap”; and

Online Contribution of the Year – David Flynn, Australian Business Traveller for “Qantas inflight wireless iPad system in action”.
