The second Legacy 500 flies.

Embraer Executive Jets’ second Legacy 500 mid-size business jet has taken to the air, officially entering the flight test and certification program. It follows the November 27 maiden flight of the Legacy 500. Since then the aircraft has accumulated 44 hours in 23 flights.

The second Legacy 500 will be dedicated to aircraft systems development and certification in a program that is designed to mature the design concepts of the aircraft.

Embraer Executive Jets president Ernest Edwards said: “The test program is proceeding as planned and now that Serial Number Two has flown, the test campaign will accelerate for this breakthrough mid-size jet. The initial flight-test feedback has been very favourable. The aircraft and systems’ overall performance is above expectation.”

In what Embraer says is the first clean-sheet design for a mid-size business jet in 15 years, the Legacy 500 is the first in its class to offer fly-by-wire technology and has a 3,000nm range – the longest in its class.
