50th anniversary of RAAF intel specialisation

written by WOFA | April 25, 2013

This year will mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Intelligence Specialisation in the RAAF, with events to be held in Adelaide and Canberra to mark the milestone.

With the transition of the RAAF into a jet age professional force in the 1950-60s, the RAAF formally established the Intelligence Officer role within the Special Duties Branch on September 20 1963.

More recently, the RAAF has established two dedicated intelligence squadrons to provide tailored air intelligence for the Air Force.

To celebrate 50 years since the creation of the RAAF Intelligence Specialisation, events to mark the occasion will be held in Adelaide and Canberra. Both events are open to serving and retired RAAF Intelligence personnel. The Adelaide event will be held at RAAF Edinburgh on September 20, 50 years to the day since the RAAF Intelligence Specialisation was created. Meanwhile the Canberra event will be held on October 5 and an informal brunch will also be held on October 6 in Canberra.

Retired and serving RAAF Intelligence personnel are encouraged to attend either the Adelaide or Canberra events. For more information regarding event details please email [email protected] or call 1300 DEFENCE (1300 333 362) and ask to be put through to RAAF Reunions.
