Jetstar will introduce flights between Perth and the Indonesian island of Lombok from September 24.
The new route will be the first nonstop service from Australia to the emerging tourism destination and becomes the airline’s 15th international destination and fifth to Indonesia.

“The size and scale of Jetstar allows us to open new routes and provide opportunities for more people to travel more often,” Jetstar Australia and New Zealand CEO David Hall said.

Jetstar will operate four flights a week to the island. Hall said Lombok would become a popular choice for Australians wanting a relaxing holiday destination.

“We know from our experience the introduction of a low fares carrier helps create new market demand and has a positive impact on the tourism sector,” he said, noting Lombok is the 62nd port for the Jetstar Group.

The new service will be operated by an Airbus A320, flying on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday with a flight time of around three hours and 40 minutes. Jetstar’s lead-in fare for the route starts at $179.

Lombok is a small island located 1600km north-west of Darwin offering a mix of accommodation and activities for the leisure market and is described as reminiscent of Bali in the 1990s.
