Virgin expands codeshares with Etihad and Singapore Airlines

Virgin is expanding its international codeshare arrangments.

Virgin Australia has added Amsterdam to its codeshare agreement with Etihad, as well as Rome with Singapore Airlines and Milan with both Etihad and Singapore Airlines.

Customers travelling on Virgin Australia’s network will be able to connect through Abu Dhabi or Singapore on to Milan or Amsterdam on the same ticket, while passengers travelling to Rome or Milan on the Singapore Airlines service will connect via Changi Airport.

Velocity Frequent Flyer members will also be able to earn points and status credits on these routes.

The codeshare flight between Abu Dhabi and Milan will be operated by a two-class A330- 200 seven times a week. Abu Dhabi to Amsterdam will be operated by a two-class A330-200 seven times a week. Etihad and Virgin Australia fly 28 times per week from Australia to Abu Dhabi, connecting to 14 codeshare destinations in Europe.

The codeshare flights with Singapore Airlines will be operated by a two-class 777-200 aircraft between Singapore and Rome three times per week and a three-class 777-200ER between Singapore and Milan five times per week.

Virgin Australia said the additional codeshare services were a continuation of the roll-out of its alliance with both airlines, which together already includes 137 codeshare and interline destinations globally.

The announcement follows recent regulatory approvals being granted allowing Virgin Australia to codeshare on flights into Italy and the Netherlands.
