The position is a new one which Tourism Tasmania says was created as part of the state government’s response to the Tasmanian Access Report released at the end of 2012. It will have responsibility for a whole of government approach to access issues including infrastructure, policy, investment attraction and freight.

Tourism Tasmania’s CEO, John Fitzgerald said in a ststement; “At a time when there are more airline seats for travel to and from Tasmania, and we are welcoming record numbers of visitors to the state – for holidays, events, business and education – the position of Director of Aviation and Access Development will be vital in not only maintaining our competitive position in this space, but in developing and implementing strategies that provide both long-term benefit to the State and returns on investment for the service operators providing air and sea services.”
