Lockheed Martin has delivered an MH-60R electronic warfare support system (EWSS) to the Royal Australian Navy.

Built in its Adelaide facility, the EWSS will provide the RAN with the ability to generate and test unique Australian mission data loads for the electronic support measures (ESM) systems of the Romeo fleet when it enters service in 2015.

“Our entire MH-60R program team is very proud to have achieved this next milestone on the Australian maritime helicopter program,” company Director of Naval Helicopter Programs, Tom Kane said in a statement. “EWSS provides Australia with a key capability to support the aircraft and maximise the capabilities of the MH-60R’s sensor suite. We are also very appreciative of the level of support we received from Australian companies and look forward to collaborating with them on future opportunities.”

The first four RAN MH-60Rs and elements of NUSQN725 are currently embedded with US Navy units at Jacksonville and Mayport in Florida as they train on the new machines.
